The cool morning air echoes with the din of Texas Trilling Crickets. Prickly Pear Cacti are among the first of the flora to manifest the effects of recent rains. Their shallow roots push precious soil moisture into light green, newly-formed platyclades. They appear to thumb their nose at the drought.
One of the hardiest of shortgrass prairie wildflowers, the helianthus ciliaris, aka Texas Blueweed bounces joyously in the prairie winds. The golden crowns of this beautiful sister of Helios dominate the color scheme of the landscape.

I will be traveling through Texas around Amarillo along Interstate 44. Is it possible to see this plant in flower? Where might I see it anywhere along 44.
