Poets, philosophers, mathematicians, artists, aristocrats and paupers chase it. All long for the comfort of understanding its existence. It inspires quests into the environs of space and rummaging for the divine spark within the deepest recesses of the human soul. It’s omnipresent, yet elusive. The wind in the pines carries its fragrance. It’s in a lover’s embrace. You can hold it in the palm of your hand, until it lights the fire of sunrises and sunsets. It’s one twinkle of a star-filled night canopy and the polished boulder in a mountain brook. The hawk soaring on thermals embodies its essence.
Every stroll on the short-grass prairie redefines the center of the universe. Today, it’s the delicate rosette of greenery, pushing its ruffled leaves through the windswept hardpan of the Llano Estacado plateau--the first sign of Spring.
